Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, 1967 |
|
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner was a film that was very much a
piece of its time. With the civil rights movement, it was about
time that interracial marriage was the topic of a main stream Hollywood
film. It was a sheer pleasure to see Kate and Spence in a film again,
this being their ninth and last film together. Shortly after the
film was released Spencer died. Both Spencer and Kate were nominated
for an Oscar, but only Kate won for her part as Christina Dayton.
The rest of the cast was also noteworthy. Sydney Poitier gave a
splendid performance and Kate's niece Katharine Houghton was lovely.
