The Hollywood Walk of Fame began as part of a 1956 city
improvement plan aimed at preserving the memory and magic of "the
entertainment capital of the world." It is maintained by the
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
Stars are made of coral terrazzo with the celebrity names and the outlines
of the stars in bronze, inset in three-foot square terrazzo blocks.
Jean Harlow's star is located at 6912 Hollywood Blvd. and is across the
street from the famed Chinese Theatre. Sadly, the neighborhood ain't what
it used to be. Jean's star is worn and sporting a dent (like something
heavy was dropped on it) in the coral terrazzo just above her name. It
currently resides outside one of the many cheesey souvenir/electronic stores
that line the boulevard. |
