Little Women, 1933, directed by George Cukor is the first sound
adaptation of Luisa May Alcott's book and, in my opinion, the best.
The stars of the film are Katharine
Hepburn as Jo, Joan Bennett as Amy, Frances Dee as Meg, and Jean
Parker as Beth. This film convinced David O. Selznick that his future
lay in filming the Classics since it made such a large profit during
the depression. It was the first time that director George Cukor
and Katharine Hepburn worked together and it was an excellent match.
I love this film and, once again, the scenes are picture postcards
of another era. |
