Biblical & Historic Epics
JOAN THE WOMAN , 1917

Joan the Woman was DeMille's first historic spectacle. Although not the first of its kind, it was certainly a groundbreaker and turning point for DeMille. With this film, he proved that he could stand equal to such great directors as D.W. Griffith by creating a film that would go beyond the expectations and limitations of the time and be an example to other directors. DeMille proved that he was an innovator in his use of panoramic war scenes, double exposures, etc. This film certainly wetted DeMille's taste for working on a grand scale. Starring: Geraldine Farrar, Raymond Hatton and Hobart Bosworth.
