FILMOGRAPHY

Anthony Adverse, 1936

This historical epic by Hervey Allen was a best seller and neatly, if melodramatically brought to the screen as a vehicle for Frederick March. Although many feel that March was too old for the part, no one argued with Olivia as the the young girl he loves, Angela, the daughter of the cook at his adopted parents home.

The film revolves around Anthony's life and how he and Angela never seem to be able to stay together. They are separated many times and Anthony goes through many episodes.

When he finds her at last she is an acclaimed opera star who is also a mistress of Napoleon Bonapart. Angela is also the mother of Anthony's child and the film ends with Angela, who now feels that she cannot be with Anthony, decides to give him custody of her son and send them to a new life in America.
