Bette Davis filmography

Now Voyager
Warner Brothers, 1942

This is a great Bette vehicle. She starts out as the mousy, overweight and timid Charlotte Vale overpowered by her cruel mother who thinks that, as the last child and unwanted, Charlotte's role in life is to take care of her. However, she seeks psychological help from Dr. Jaquith, played by Claude Rains, and turns herself into a beauty. She gains self confidence throughout the film and falls in love with Jerry Durrance played by Paul Henreid. He is already married (unhappily) with a little girl, named Christina who seems to suffer the same fate as Charlotte did by her overbearing and selfish mother. Charlotte helps June to find happiness and although she doesn't get the man in the end, she has found some happiness in transforming his child when she tells Jerry in the last scene:

"Don't let's ask for the moon, we have the stars."
listen to Bette say this.
