A LETTER TO THREE WIVES
20th Century Fox, 1949

Linda finally had a good role to play. She is Lora Mae Hollingsway, a supposed "golddigger" who caught her husband for his money, but ends loving him. This film offered the critical success she had wanted and not received for Forever Amber.

The story revolves around three wives who have just received a letter from their nemesis Addy Ross telling them that one of their husbands has run away with her. The letter is received just when the three are about to set sail for a day long children's picnic.

The story is told in flashback as each wife tries to remember why her husband might be the one who has strayed. Joseph Mankiewicz wrote the script and it is one of his best with All About Eve yet to come.

The cast includes:

  • Jeanne Crain .... Deborah Bishop
  • Linda Darnell .... Lora Mae Hollingsway
  • Ann Sothern .... Rita Phipps
  • Kirk Douglas .... George Phipps
  • Paul Douglas .... Porter Hollingsway
  • Barbara Lawrence .... Babe
  • Jeffrey Lynn .... Brad Bishop
  • Connie Gilchrist .... Mrs. Finney
  • Florence Bates .... Mrs. Manleigh
  • Hobart Cavanaugh .... Mr. Manleigh
