Joan plays Janie Barlow, a burlesque show girl who has a relationship with Tod Newton, played by Franchot Tone, who is backing a broadway show in which Patch Gallegher, played by Clark Gable, is the dance director. Janie promises Tod that she will marry him if the show is a flop and he does everything in his power to insure that it is. However, Patch and Janie are becoming more and more interested in each other and do whatever they can to insure that the show is a success.
Very typical musical of the time and noted to be Fred Astaire's first film performance. Joan is excellent in this very conventional film.
