The Prisoner of Zenda
directed by: John Cromwell
David O. Selznick/United Artists, 1937 |
| This is a classic swashbuckler with Colman playing
both lead characters. Rudolph Rassendyll and King Rudolf V's are
identical lookalike cousins. When King Rudolf is drugged by his
evil brother, Michael, Rassendyll, who is just visiting on a fishing
holiday, is asked to risk his life and impersonate the King during
his coronation the next day. He does well, but the real King is
kidnapped, so Rassendyll must continue the impersonation until
Rudolf V is rescued. Princess Flavia, the King's betrothed, begins
to notice a "personality change" in her fiancee and she
and Rassendyll fall in love. |
