Lost Horizon
directed by: Frank Capra
Columbia, 1937 |
| British diplomat Robert Conway and a small group crash land in
the Himalayas, and are rescued by the people of the mysterious,
valley of Shangri-la. Protected by the mountains from the world
outside, Shangri-la provides a seductive escape for the world-weary
Conway. Conway loves the place while his brother does nothing but
plan for his escape. Residents of the valley grow old at an extremely
slow pace so that one's life seems endless. When Conway asks Chang
if the people in Shangra-la are happy he replies that the inhabitants
are ruled by moderation. Another Colman classic that has been recently
restored to include the soundtrack from scenes which were cut from
the original release and no longer exist. |
