Small
Town Girl, 1953 MGM hired Berkeley to devise
something interesting for what is a forgettable musical
set in a town called Duck Creek and featuring Farley Granger
as a playboy in love with a Broadway star played by Ann
Miller. Probably the best number Berkeley staged
in this film was that for "I've Gotta Hear That Beat" where
he placed eighty-six musicians under a 5 foot high stage
and drilled holes for their arms. Ann Miller then
danced around them and their instruments.
